About the club
Founded on the shores of Bronte
A community built around friendship, health and a passion for running.
Bronte Runners grew the way the best clubs do: a few neighbours who kept bumping into each other on the waterfront path decided to run at the same time. Then they told a few more people.
Today the club is one of the largest and most active running communities in Halton, with 800+ members across Oakville & Burlington. It has never charged a fee and never asked anyone to fill in a form. You join the Facebook group, you find the next run, you show up.
What the club is for
Accountability, mostly. Company on long runs. Someone who notices when you do not show up. A distance that fits when you are training for something, and a social run when you are not. Former elite athletes and first-time 5K runners share the same start line every week, and that is the point.
The Bronte Harbour Classic
Bronte Runners has a close connection with the Mercedes-Benz Oakville Bronte Harbour Classic, the Father's Day running event held on our home waterfront. Produced by TapeGeeks, the race launched in 2026 and brought hundreds of runners, kids, vendors and volunteers to Bronte. Bronte Runners is a community partner of the event, with many members volunteering, pacing and racing, and a great many of them wore red. The 2027 event on Sunday, June 20, 2027 adds a new 10K.
Growing north
In September 2026 the club started a sister group, Oakville Runners, for members in North Oakville & Burlington. It meets Sundays at 8:00 AM from Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, led by Charles J. Sathmary, and every Bronte Runner is welcome there.
Giving back
In 2025 the club's Terry Fox team raised $27,000, the largest fundraising group in Oakville that year. It is the kind of thing that happens when 800 people are already in the habit of showing up.
How we run
Four things we care about
Show up
The only rule that matters. Rain, snow, a bad week: the group is there Wednesday at six and Saturday and Sunday mornings at the harbour.
All paces, honestly
Former elites and people who started last spring run in the same club. Nobody gets dropped and nobody gets teased about pace.
Neighbours first
Most of us live within a few kilometres of the harbour. The club is how a lot of people in Bronte met their friends.
Give back
The largest Terry Fox fundraising team in Oakville. Marshals, pacers and water stations at the Bronte Harbour Classic.
